About once an hour we read Akamai's official status feed and record exactly what it says — we don't infer status from our own connection to them. When the feed can't be read, we record nothing rather than guess, so a gap in the chart above means “not monitored”, never “down”.
Uptime is the share of the 111 recorded checks where Akamai was not reporting an outage — a provider flagging degraded service is still up.
