ChatGPT Errors in APAC
The internet is broadly healthy this morning. One incident is still open at OpenAI, and yesterday's simultaneous outage across three major AI chatbots has been resolved.
Open now: OpenAI is investigating elevated error rates for users in the Asia-Pacific region, affecting ChatGPT, Work mode, image generation, file uploads, Voice and Codex Cloud. The incident opened at 07:00 UTC and was still marked as investigating as of 09:30 UTC. Users outside APAC are not reported as affected. Source: https://status.openai.com/
Yesterday's AI outage, now resolved: on September 3, ChatGPT, Claude and Grok all failed at roughly the same time. Downdetector logged more than 37,000 reports for OpenAI, around 1,365 for Grok and about 1,300 for Claude. OpenAI described a routing error beginning around 07:43 PT that made ChatGPT and Codex unavailable for some users, and confirmed all services were back to normal by 12:38 PT. Anthropic's status page shows its model error incidents resolved by 16:23 UTC. Cursor was affected downstream through both its OpenAI and Anthropic model routes. Press coverage attributed the common cause to a regional failure in Microsoft Azure's East US infrastructure, which hosts capacity for all three; we note that Azure's public status page and status history list no corresponding event, so that attribution is not confirmed by the provider. Google's Gemini, which runs on Google Cloud, stayed largely available.
Smaller items still open: Akamai is investigating a problem with Application Load Balancer reporting. Cloudflare has an unresolved issue returning incorrect geolocation for some WARP users, open since August 27, alongside a set of regional incidents from the past two days that are all now closed, including a hardware failure in Tokyo and R2 errors in western North America. Slack continues to show degraded messaging and admin components tied to retrieving historical messages in workspaces with custom data retention policies, an issue open since August 13. Twilio has several carrier-specific SMS and MMS delivery problems, including delays to Vivo and Claro subscribers in Brazil.
Core infrastructure is clear. AWS reports no open issues, Google Cloud shows no broad severe incidents, and Azure lists no active events. GitHub, Discord, Atlassian, Vercel, DigitalOcean, Zoom, Cursor, Groq, Replicate, ElevenLabs, Cohere and Stability all report normal operation. Searches for BGP incidents, DNS failures and submarine cable faults surfaced nothing new; the only country-level disruptions are the long-running intentional shutdowns tracked by the Internet Society, which stood at 11 as of September 3.
Overall: incidents detected, no widespread outage.
